Nicole Hernandez joins St. Robert School as a part-time teacher who is raising her daughter and son while attending graduate school to earn a master’s degree in education. Nicole is a true Californian, born and raised in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. When reflecting on the road she has taken, Nicole reveals an appreciation for the challenges and awards of growing up in a household where only Spanish was spoken. Nichole recounts, “My sister and I had an important job. We served as our parents’ translators. I saw in their eyes what we were able to do. I knew then that I wanted to teach a bilingual class, to work with elementary-school-age children from all ethnic backgrounds. I wanted to help them discover the value of knowing two languages and treasuring a part of their own culture.”
